Robert T. Nothdurft, Jr. is an associate attorney with the Law Offices of Michael J. Alber, P.C., where he practices criminal defense as well as matrimonial and family law. Starting his legal career with the Nassau County Legal Aid Society, Robert immediately became adept at litigating complex cases in a fast-paced environment. At times, he managed caseloads far exceeding two-hundred. During the last year of his tenure with Legal Aid, Robert worked exclusively on domestic violence cases, representing defendants charged with criminal offenses against spouses, domestic partners, and children. In his transition from public defense to private defense, he developed an even deeper understanding of the Penal Law and Criminal Procedure Law, as he was able to spend more time on his clients’ cases. His mastery of the rules of evidence is rivaled only by his aggressive litigation style. As a private practitioner, Robert devotes an immeasurable amount of time strategizing his clients’ cases, knowing that trial is always a weapon at his disposal. Whether he’s litigating a motion before the bench or a trial before a jury, Robert approaches every case with tact and prowess. Overlooking no detail, Robert holds the prosecution to its burden and commands skillful advocacy.
In 2017, Robert also expanded his practice to include matrimonial and family law, where he brings the same level of zeal. He often appears as counsel on matrimonial cases involving a wide variety of financial and familial issues. Robert works diligently to give his clients the advantage at every stage of litigation, including motions, conferences, and hearings. More than just his tactical approach on legal and procedural issues, Robert also takes his time to listen to his clients knowing that they are enduring some of the most difficult times in their lives. He absorbs his clients’ fear and apprehension and filters them through a rational lens towards a favorable outcome.
Robert’s diverse practice requires him to appear in courts in both counties and all five boroughs. Clients have also sought his representation for matters taking place in upstate New York.
In law school, Robert was heavily involved with the Mock Trial Honor Society, where he competed in four different competitions. His final year, he advanced to the national round of the Texas Young Lawyer’s Association’s National Trial Competition, having been awarded the “Best Advocate’s Award” on the regional level. A year into his practice, Robert served as a coach at Hofstra University Maurice A. Deane School of Law, leading his team to the Final Round of the competition hosted by Quinnipiac University School of Law. Robert’s devotion to trial advocacy continues to give him the upper hand in all types of cases and makes him the attorney you want to stand by your side.
